The hamlet of Meyrieres

At the gates of the Cevennes National Park, on the border of Lozere and Gard, 20 km from Ales, 10 km from La Grand Combe and Collet de Dèze, the Hameau de Meyrières, a 17th century Cevennes farmhouse built on a rocky peak, in the heart of a chestnut grove of several hectares, welcomes you to a preserved environment, far from the noise and hustle of the city. We found this house without looking for it and it welcomed us at first sight. Old stones, wild nature, chestnut trees, oaks, arbutus trees, flowers in profusion, spring water, everything is made for the rest of the body and the spirit.

The Hameau de Meyrières is a place for relaxation, disconnection and meditation. If you wish to live at the rhythm of nature, without pollution or nuisance, come and discover our farmhouse. We are open from mid-April to the end of September.

Who we are?

Marie and Thierry. We come from Haute-Savoie and have put down our luggage at Meyrières in January 2020.

Thierry, technician in the plastics industry, I work near Ales. I am the handyman of the house, from small repairs to big renovations. I also became a woodcutter to provide the wood for our stove and to maintain the forest.

Marie, I left the stressful life of Geneva where I worked for more than 20 years in event management and facility management to welcome you and take care of the house and garden. Passionate about cooking, I also propose you the table d’hôtes with simple and greedy menus, made with products of the garden and local producers.

 Ecological approach

What we liked about Meyrières is the impression of living out of time. Far from any pollution, we take the time to live at the silent rhythm of nature, we adapt to the seasons and to the whims of the Cevennes climate, sometimes harsh, often mild (300 days of sunshine per year). We take advantage of a preserved environment.

It is important to maintain this balance despite our presence and our willingness to share our property with our guests, and are therefore very attentive to the protection of our environment.

We have a large garden that we cultivate according to the principles of permaculture, letting nature live without constraint. Our vegetables, fruits and eggs are organic. It is also a great pleasure to enjoy the benefits of nature: purslane, blackberries, arbutus, chestnuts, mushrooms, aromatic herbs.

We use only natural cleaning products for the house. You will have at your disposal all the necessary cleaning products during your stay.

We are also adept at the circular economy and recycling: only the essential new equipment is purchased, for the rest, we use the resources of the site, and love to hunt in brocantes at local associations.
